Zoisite
Zoisite is a calcium aluminium silicate hydroxide that belongs to the Epidote Group of minerals. Zoisite is formed during the metamorphosis of alkaline igneous rocks. It forms rough masses and obtains its green colour from the presence of chromium and vanadium.
Zoisite occurs in the colours of green, blue to violet and pink to reddish and less often as grey, white or brown. It has a vitreous lustre and transparent to translucent crystals. The crystal structure includes long, somewhat prismatic or tabular crystals with a typically dominant pinacoid that the crystal is often flattened against. The terminations are usually poorly developed. Also massive or granular. Striated crystals are common and strongly pleochroic.
Zoisite can be found in Tanzania, Australia South Africa, Switzerland, India, Austria and the USA.
