Black Amethyst is a natural, dark form of the purple quartz variety that offers powerful grounding and protective properties, combining the traditional benefits of amethyst with an earthy foundation.

 

Geologically, "black amethyst" is not a formally recognized mineral species, as amethyst is by definition violet quartz. Instead, it is typically a very dark purple amethyst that appears matte black at first glance due to a high concentration of mineral inclusions, most notably hematite and iron

within its crystal matrix. This unique composition gives it its deep, opaque appearance, which can be found in geodes and large cathedral formations, primarily sourced from regions like Brazil and Uruguay. It shares the same chemical composition as regular amethyst.
