Flower Agate is a beautiful and increasingly popular stone known for its delicate, opaque chalcedony inclusions that resemble tiny floral blooms within a translucent agate matrix.

 

Geologically, it is a microcrystalline quartz variety found predominantly in Madagascar. The unique "flower" effects are actually mineral inclusions, primarily hematite and other iron oxides, that form three-dimensional patterns as the agate builds up in layers within volcanic rock cavities. This gives the stone its characteristic appearance of a field of flowers, with colors ranging from pale pink, white, gray, orange, to occasional green hues. It is a durable stone with a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7.
