Magma Chalcedony is a captivating, newly discovered gemstone known for its vibrant energy and resemblance to flowing molten rock.

 

Geologically, it is a trade name for a specific type of chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of quartz, found only on Java Island, Indonesia. Its striking appearance is a result of volcanic activity, where iron oxide and small crocoite crystals are infused within the chalcedony matrix, creating swirls of fiery red, orange, and pink hues against neutral tones that appear like lava flows frozen in time. It is important to note that while the polished stone is safe to handle, the dust created during cutting can be toxic due to the crocoite inclusions, so care must be taken during processing.
