Midnight Lace Obsidian is a rare and visually striking form of natural volcanic glass, highly valued for its elegant appearance and powerful protective energies.

 

Geologically, it is a variety of obsidian formed by the rapid cooling of high-silica lava. Its distinctive appearance features striking patterns of black and translucent or light-colored wavy bands, which resemble delicate lacework against a dark background. This unique layering effect is a result of the slow movement of magma stretching and rolling the different layers of obsidian during crystallization. This material is primarily found in the Caucasus Mountains of Armenia, with a very small, non-commercial deposit also noted in Oregon, USA. It is a durable stone with a Mohs hardness of 5 to 6 and is a popular material for polished specimens, palm stones, and jewelry.
