Ganesh is the name of a Hindu god who is worshipped for wisdom, prophecy, new beginnings, good luck, karma, and duty to one's parents. He is also known as the remover of obstacles. Ganesha is often depicted with an elephant's head and is potbellied, holding in his hand a few round Indian sweets. His name comes from the Sanskrit words gana, which means common people, and isha, which translates as Lord, so his name is often translated as "Lord of the People" or "Lord of the Ganas".
