Aphrodite is the Goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation. She is said to have been born in sea foam. She is the wife of Hephaestus (forced to marry). Her sons are Eros (Cupid) and Aeneas, a mortal man.

Aphrodite originated from Greece. Her Roman name or equivalent is Venus. Her Mesopotamian equivalent is Inanna / Ishtar. Her Canaanite equivalent is Astarte. Her other names are Acidalia, Cytherea, Cerigo and Anadyomene.

Aphrodite possesses a magical girdle that rendered her irresistible to both gods and humans. She is the “beautiful goddess”. It is claimed that without her, there would be no joy or loveliness anywhere.

Aphrodite is said to have been born near her most active center of worship, Paphos, on the island of Cyprus, out of sea foam. She supposedly arose from the foam when the Titan Kronos slew his father Uranus and threw his genitals into the sea.

Aphrodite is known to ride a goat or a young male deer on land, a dolphin at sea, and a swan or goose in the air. Doves pull her chariot.
